  CONSCIENTIZATION PROGRAMME

The Conscientization is a popular education and social concept developed by Brazilian pedagogue and educational theorist Paulo Freire, grounded in post-Marxist critical theory. Critical consciousness focuses on achieving an in-depth understanding of the world, allowing for the perception and exposure of social and political contradictions. Critical consciousness also includes taking action against the oppressive elements in one's life that are illuminated by that understanding.

INTRODUCTION

 Environmental issues are harmful effects of human activity on the biophysical environment. Environmental protection is a practice of protecting the natural environment on individual, organizational or governmental levels, for the benefit of both the environment and humans. Environmentalism, a social and environmental movement, addresses environmental issues through advocacy, education and activism. There are many environmental issues in India,  that contribute to the pollution of the natural environment like Air pollution, Water pollution, garbage are all challenges for India.   The situation was worse since 1947 and at the same time according to data collection and environment assessment studies of the World Bank experts, between 1995 and 2010, India has made one of the fastest progress in the world in addressing its environmental issues and improving its environmental issues are one of the primary cause of disease, health issues and long term live hood impact for India.

OBJECTIVES

>To sensitize the students and community members on Environmental issues. 

>To increase public awareness about environmental issues and explore possible situation.  

> To promote the Human efforts on environmental issues. 

>To understand the basic knowledge on Environmental issues and familiarize     such situations. 

>To ensure active participation of individual in the protection of environment.

  REPORT

As a part of the B.Ed curriculum we decided to conduct a conscientization programme during our second school internship programme. I conducted an Environmental Awareness Programme on 10th January 2019 in 8A classroom.

At the beginning of the section I asked some questions related to the environment. The students answered well then i gave a short introduction on the objectives of the programme. After that each student expressed their individual thoughts, views and ideas which are helpful to create awareness. Then I presented a slide show on various Environmental Issues by showing pictures that highlight the adverse effect of human intervention on Environment and on different problems like climatic changes, Air pollution, Water pollution, Deforestation and Global warming. I also gave a short description on the current problems that we face due to frequent climatic changes. 

Then I conducted a discussion among students on different problems on Environment and its impact followed by a video presentation. For the active involvement students I introduced activities like poster making and slogan writing. I concluded my class by focusing on the solutions that one can do to protect Environment by implementing 5R's- Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Re-purpose and Recycle. As assignment I asked the students to write a short write-up on the need to safeguard and shield our Environment.

FEEDBACK

As per the response of the students the programme was 100% success because the students could understand the negative effect of human intervention that create massive impact on our environment. Learners wrote slogans and even constructed beautiful posters that echoes the need to protect our Environment.

CONCLUSION   

 Majority of the students during their speeches exhausted that our environment is polluted due to globalization, smoke water flow from Industries which cause to air and water pollution.  Like that deforestation, cutting down of trees and use of fertilizers cause land pollution.  Also some of students commented that changes in human behaviour like use of heavy number of motor vehicles pollute our environment   at the end of the programme the class leader expressed gratitude.  All the students promised to take a step for preserving the nature.  They all very pleasant in the class.  They responded well.
