To make the pupil think more about similes and metaphors through inductive method of teaching and fun activities.

The learner will be able to
> identify and describe the difference between similes and metaphors.
>interpret the meaning of similes and metaphors in a context.
>use similes and metaphors in their own writing.
>explain and discuss the effect of these literary devices.

>might have a basic understanding of what are similes and metaphors.
>may be able to distinguish the difference between the meaning of similes and metaphors in a context.

CLASSROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE


WARM UP ACTIVITY


Teacher introduced a poem "Time Out" and asked the students to analyze the poem.

TIME OUT


Help how much my heart hurts,
My mouth is as dry as a desert,
My thought is sore,
My voice is goner,
My heart is beating as fast as a tiger,
My hand is a rattling Snake,
My face is like a tomato,
Bye Bye, Boring Life.

Teacher pointed out three sentences from the poem and to identify its difference
>My mouth is as dry as a desert.
>My face is like a tomato.
>My hand is a rattling snake.

DEVELOPMENT


Teacher introduced the literary devices- similes and metaphors with pictures and different activities.

THE METAPHOR FAMILY


My brother is a dragon,
My mother is a teddy bear,
I am a shaggy sheepdog,
with a tan of tangled hair.
My father is a monkey,
He likes to make us laugh,
Especially my sister,
Who is a tall giraffe.
We are a busy family,
With many things to do
But sometimes it is a zoo.

Teacher also differentiated similes and metaphors
>My heart is like a gold.
>Her heart is a gold.

FUN ACTIVITIES


DRAWING METAPHORS


Teacher ask the students to draw pictures with similes and metaphors.
>You are as cool as a breeze.
>You are my Guardian Angel.

MAKE UP A STORY


A fun activity to let the students to make up a story using similes and metaphors. Teacher will give the students a set of words and ask the students to develop a story based on it.

Teacher ask the students some questions:
>What is a metaphor?
>What is a simile?
>What is the difference between the two literary devices?
